Marine Captain 1 & 2
Sarawak - Miri
Responsibilities:
  • Shall be responsible for marine activities on the WORKBARGE / WORKBOAT.
  • Shall hold a Class 1 certificate of competency as Foreign Going Master BUT shall not be a Panamanian or Liberian origin.
  • Shall possess valid trade specific certification.
  • Shall assist the Senior Marine Captain to manage the fleet in compliance with Client’s Marine HSE Standard EP2005-0262.
  • Shall coach Masters on the VESSELS as required.
  • Shall assist the Senior Marine Captain to carry out marine related incident investigations and be responsible to close-out all marine related recommendations.
  • Shall prepare anchor patterns proposal for Client’s approval.
  • Shall accelerate issuance of anchor patterns in compliance with the latest Client’s work programmer (Integrated Barge Schedule).
  • Shall assist the Senior Marine Captain to carry out VESSELS inspections and issue inspection reports prior to inviting Client’s Pre-Mobilization Inspection.
  • The SMC 1 is responsible to the Marine Manager for the safe and economical supervision of the Operations and Crewing Sections.
  • The SMC 1 has the responsibility for all aspects of the management of the ships operated by the Company.   His duties shall include but not limited to the following:
  • The assessment of the functions and performance of Crewing Department and Agencies if any.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor the progress of the voyages undertaken by the vessels operated by the company.
  • Confirming that the ships are provided with the latest and most appropriate information regarding sailing instructions, charts, and publications, etc.  In this connection the vessel’s current and perceived trading patterns shall be taken into account;
  • Ensuring that all the vessels are provided with adequate information relating to the marine aspect of their operation.  This will include the verification of navigation systems, procedures and equipment;
  • Facilitating internal audits in the office and on board as planned by the Designated Person.
  • Overall responsibility on crew matters, including employment, recruitment, welfare, documentation, training and other related crew matters.
  • Performs overall co-ordination, monitoring and management of the operations of the Marine Department as per scope of work and job descriptions of CAT3 Project contract.
  • Managing the onshore support for the CAT3 Project covering Chartering and On-hire inspection; Marine Logistics Management; Preparation of Anchor Pattern Drawings; Marine Crewing; HSE; and Fleet Maintenance.
  • Assists the Marine Manager in managing the onshore support for the CAT3 Project covering Chartering and On-hire inspection; Marine Logistics Management; Marine Crewing and HSE.
  • Acts as the Company’s DPA in the absence of the SMC2.
  • To provide marine support to Project Team.
  • The incumbent is required to initiate and monitor the training programmes of staff especially new recruits, their performance on various tasks and assist them in getting the depth and breadth of knowledge required to perform their work.
  • He has to monitor the performance of work barges, boats and support vessels under his responsibilities.
  • To support the Company’s prime objective of increasing profitability, the incumbent has to be innovative and explore reasonably practicable methods to maximize the usage of chartered vessels.
  • The incumbent is to ensure that high standard of marine service is maintained in the operation of work barge, boats and support vessels.  This includes the maintenance and replacement of moorings and ancillary marine equipment.
  • To provide advisory service to maintenance department in Marine operation.
  • Manpower planning (offshore & onshore staff).
  • Maintenance of all deck equipment – bridge equipments, anchor, pennant wires, anchor buoys, tow bridles, hull, accommodations, structures etc.
  • To formulate and enforce COMPANY marine procedures and standards.
  • Efficiently operate support vessels (supply/crew/milk run vessels) in order to provide optimum service to the Company.
  • Efficiently maintain the mooring equipments for the work barge and work boats.
  • Efficiently maintain stock of appropriate mooring equipment spares.
  • Provide marine advice, particularly in the planning stages, on proposals made by operating Departments.
  • Assess and evaluate operational, maintenance, administrative and staff problems and initiate action for their solutions.
  • Ensure that quarterly inspections of barges and vessels are conducted.
  • Ensure contractors and vessels compliance with Government legislation and Company procedures by carrying out audits and inspections.
  • Maintain good rapport with Shell Marine and resolve any Marine problems arising from any difference of opinion.
  • Attend SSB Daily operation meeting on marine issues.
  • Emergency Response Team Member
  • As a company ISM/HSE auditor
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.

Requirements:
  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, Others or equivalent.
  • At least 5 year(s) of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
  • Preferably Managers.
  • Full-Time positions available.
